The continuous invention of the new fumetti personages had in it's base purely
mercantile considerations. In order to achieve market success on the comics
creators was to predict (and satisfy) tastes of their readers. But fumetti
market in the Mid 60s was overflowed by numerous variations of "criminal" genre
and more "teasing" themes were in demand. The quest for teasing elements made
birth to "erotic adventures" stories with female protagonists like "Isabella".

The plot of Isabella took place in France of 16s century and reminds the
adventures of Agelica - the protagonist of Anne & Serge Golon popular novel.
On the comics' cover the label "fumetti per adulti" was placed, signifying
the explicit erotic content of the comics. The publishing life of this comics
lasted from April 1962 to Oct-1976 totalling 244 numbers issued.

Biancaneve
The idea of "Biancaneve" (Snow White) belongs to Renzo Barbiery - one of the
"Isabella" creators that founded in 1972 publishing house "Edifumetto". Writer
Rubino Ventura and illustrator Leone Frollo made use of omonious fairy tale of
Grimm Brothers, but rewrote the plot in erotic - ironic mood. Their version of
the story begins with Biancaneve faled in love with the charming prince Harold,
but interfered by her malicious step mother Naga. The amorous triangle goes to
be tense, when Biancaneve became conscious about her beauty and her passion to
make love with men, women and other creatures of various kind. The heroine of
the fable is encircled by seven Dwarfs that practice various sexual habits, as
their names indicates.

In the mid 70s saw the light numerous imitations of "Biancaneve": Cenerentola,
Cappuccetto Rotto, Maghella, Sorchella, as well as the series of sexy-fables:
Favolette Sexy, Fiabe Colorate, Fiabe Prohibite and others. Many of them lacked
the fixed protagonist and were reusing known personages taken from popular fairy
tales.
From the beginning "fumetti per adulti" came under public debate and were
occasionally censured by authorities. Although this censorship seems today
fairly ridiculous, cause it actually debated the percentage of the nudity
pictured and not the essence of the provocation produced by the comics.
Fumetti creators used to overcome this fuzzy censorship attempts and invented
new stories, until in the mid 80s the new media providers like erotic TV
channels imposed a strong competition on this genre and it began to loose it's
comercial relevance.
